We aim to carry out non-partisan policy discussion and analysis by both applying political economy approaches and examining the theory, logic and evidence behind complex environmental challenges and economic arguments.

People

Ang Zhao, Executive Director

Mr. Zhao is the founder of the Centre and is responsible for the organisational strategy and program operation. Mr. Zhao has research interest in the environmental and economic impacts of energy policy and how political institutions influence the outcome of clean energy transition. Before founding CEPE, he had co-directed a local environmental policy think tank in China for twelve years. He holds a Master of Science from London School of Economics and Political Science.

Dr. Gregory Trencher , Senior Advisor

As Senior Advisor, Dr. Trencher provides research guidance and criteria for CEPE’s knowledge outputs. Dr. Trencher is an associate professor at the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies at Kyoto University in Japan, Dr. Trencher focuses on the researches of energy policy and the governance of sustainability transitions. His current investigating topics include fossil-fuel phase-outs, company decarbonisation behaviour, next-generation mobility (electric, fuel-cell and autonomous vehicles) and smart cities. Dr. Trencher obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2014.
